7th Year 11-12 Edition 3 – Jos 8
l The Feast l
July_31_2012 Joshua 8
Dear Saints,
Today we prayerfully continue our Feast in Joshua 8. The reasons that we continue in the Feast are because this is what God would have us do. For the saints it's as important as continuing to eat a healthy diet as long as we live. We know that man does not live by bread alone, he lives by reading every word that God has given to him. We also know that the more we retain from this steady diet, the stronger our faith grows. Yesterday we saw the folly in taking what belongs to God. Today we see the power of repentance with our awesome God. God not only forgives us but he ads to our life. “1 And the Lord said to Joshua, “Do not fear and do not be dismayed. Take all the fighting men with you, and arise, go up to Ai. See, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, and his people, his city, and his land. 2 And you shall do to Ai and its king as you did to Jericho and its king. Only its spoil and its livestock you shall take as plunder for yourselves. Lay an ambush against the city, behind it.”” Joshua 8:1-2 English Standard Version (ESV). We've noticed this pattern of forgiveness all through God's Word. Remember how Jesus acted in return to Peter's denial of him at the crucifixion. I can't imagine how bad Peter was feeling after having denied Jesus three times. This was after Pete told Jesus that he wouldn't turn his back on Him. The Word shows us that Jesus understood how bad Peter felt about the denial. Jesus made sure that Peter knew that he was still loved and forgiven. He had the messenger at the tomb to specifically convey his message to Peter. “6 And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him. 7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.”” Mark 16:6-7 (ESV). Those two words “and Peter” told Peter that Jesus had already forgiven him. We see the love nature of God when he tells us to love our neighbors. Not only that if you read God's Word prayerfully you will be gin to see just how forgiving his nature is. Look at how many times God said we should forgive a brother. “21 Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” 22 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times.“ Matthew 18:21-22 (ESV). Saint, this tells us that if we are truly repentant then God's willingness to forgive us is infinite. “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.” John 1:12-13 ESV. God's will allows us to share in an eternal relationship with Him. Lets keep the first thing first. That is salvation through the blood of Jesus. ““You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14,16 ESV.
