Dec 11_2012 Acts 16

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully read, Acts 16. Timothy a young sincere man of mixed birth (Greek and Jew) impressed Paul. So Paul took Timothy to be his assistant. Following the leading of the Holy Spirit Paul proceeds to Macedonia. A devout lady named Lydia accepted Jesus and was baptized and invites the disciples to her home. Paul casts an evil spirit of divination out of a young slave girl. Her owners have Paul and Silas scourged and imprisoned. There was an earthquake and the prison was opened, God had Paul and Silas stay rather than to escape This impressed, the jailer at Philippi and he accepted Jesus. Paul and Silas released with apologies. They visited Lydia and the brothers, they encouraged them before leaving. “30 Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” 32 And they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he and all his family. 34 Then he brought them up into his house and set food before them. And he rejoiced along with his entire household that he had believed in God.” Acts 15:36-41, English Standard Version (ESV).When the jailor asked what he had to do to be saved, they simply told him to believe in Jesus. That’s all we have to tell sinners when they ask us what they need to be saved. “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” Isaiah 7:14 ESV. Think of this as Jesus said “a fisher of men.” Fish can’t be cleaned prior to being caught. Let’s keep the first thing first, that is salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. When asked what to do to get this salvation, simply say believe in the Lord Jesus. No man comes to our Father God, by any other name.
