Today’s Feast
Oct. 7, 2014- Amos 1
Proclamation of Divine Judgment
Please
join with us sharing God’s Word daily. We will spend about fifteen
minutes a day praying and reading every word in God’s Word in approximately
three years. Gods
Not Dead!
An
Overview;
Amos was a herdsman, and engaged in agriculture. But the
same Divine Spirit influenced Isaiah and Daniel in the court, and Amos in the
sheep-folds, giving to each the powers and eloquence needful for them. He
assures the twelve tribes of the destruction of the neighbouring nations; and
as they at that time gave themselves up to wickedness and idolatry, he
reproves the Jewish nation with severity; but describes the restoration of
the church by the Messiah, extending to the latter days.” - Matthew Henry Concise.
Dear
Saints,
Today
we prayerfully continue our Feast by reading the book of Joel Chapter 1; “Judgments
against the Syrians, Philistines, Tyrians, Edomites, and Ammonites.
- GOD employed a shepherd,
a herdsman, to reprove and warn the people. Those to whom God gives abilities
for his services, ought not to be despised for their origin, or their
employment. Judgments are denounced against the neighbouring nations, the
oppressors of God's people. The number of transgressions does not here mean
that exact number, but many: they had filled the measure of their sins, and
were ripe for vengeance. The method in dealing with these nations is, in part,
the same, yet in each there is something peculiar. In all ages this
bitterness has been shown against the Lord's people. When the Lord reckons
with his enemies, how tremendous are his judgments!“ - Matthew Henry Concise
God
gives the words to Amos, a shepherd named Amos to warn the nations, (see Amos 1 ) of
Damascus, Gaza, Ashdod, Tyre, Edom
and Ammon that they were going to be judged
for sin’s against God’s chosen people; “14 So I will kindle a fire in the wall
of Rabbah, and it shall devour her strongholds, with shouting on the day of
battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind; 15 and their king shall
go into exile, he and his princes together," says the LORD.” Amos 1:14-15 English Standard Versions
(ESV). I once heard a pastor say; “God
doesn’t call the qualified He qualifies the called!” This seems to be true in many cases; (see Matthew
4:18-22) look at the first disciples Jesus called. God gives different gifts as he sees fit (see
Hebrews 2:4)
for those who are called according to His purpose. It’s up to us who have heard God’s Word
to seek God’s purpose for our lives;“1
O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my
flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.” Psalm 63:1 ESV. King David was a
man after God’s own heart, not always a godly man (see Psalm
84:2) he turned to God for
help in every circumstance. Listen up Saints always conduct your selves
as godly people (see 1
Timothy 4:8) who seek God first no
matter where we are. We must love and
seek sinners before; (see John 9:31)
they face God’s proclamation of their divine
judgment.
Listen! Can you hear Jesus calling you? Is this is the day of your
salvation (see Revelation
3:20) will you answer Him?
