Dec. 17, 2013– Philippians 1
Philippians 1  “The apostle offers up thanksgivings and prayers, for the good work of grace in the Philippians. (1-7) He expresses affection, and prays for them. (8-11) Fortifies them against being cast down at his sufferings. (12-20) He stood prepared for glorifying Christ by life, or death. (21-26) Exhortations to zeal, and constancy in professing the gospel. (27-30)” -  Matthew Henry Concise

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully continue our Feast in the book of Philippians.  By reading Philippians 1.

Philippians An Overview  “The Philippians felt a very deep interest for the apostle. The scope of the epistle is to confirm them in the faith, to encourage them to walk as becomes the gospel of Christ, to caution them against judaizing teachers, and to express gratitude for their Christian bounty. This epistle is the only one, among those written by St. Paul, in which no censures are implied or expressed. Full commendation and confidence are in every part, and the Philippians are addressed with a peculiar affection, which every serious reader will perceive.” -  Matthew Henry Concise

In Philippians 1 Paul is praying for, complementing and thanking the Philippians for their faith in Jesus. He tells them that whatever happens to him Jesus will be glorified.  Paul entreats them to remain zealous in their faith in Jesus.  “29 For it has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake, 30 engaged in the same conflict that you saw I had and now hear that I still have.  Philippians 1:29-30  - English Standard Version (ESV).
These scriptures are here for all saints to prosper and grow in Jesus (see 2 Timothy 3:16).   If people point to you or harass you when you remind them what Christmas means to you, count it as a blessing and confirmation of your faith.  “12 Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, 13 while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom[a] you learned it 15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.2 Timothy 3:12-15 ESV.   As for you and I let’s celebrate Jesus’ birth with joy, thanksgiving (see Philippians 1:27-30) and good will for everyone.

Thank you Jesus for keeping us! Hallelujah!

8 And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. 10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.Luke 2:8-10 ESV.
