Today we read in 1stSamuel, Saul continues to go after David to kill him. David out of respect to God’s anointed again spares Saul’s life. David seeking peace exhorts Saul. Saul acknowledges his sin, however he shows no sign of true repentance. “22 And David answered and said, “Here is the king’s spear. Let one of the young men come over and get it. 23 May the Lord repay every man for his righteousness and his faithfulness; for the Lord delivered you into my hand today, but I would not stretch out my hand against the Lord’s anointed. 24 And indeed, as your life was valued much this day in my eyes, so let my life be valued much in the eyes of the Lord, and let Him deliver me out of all tribulation.”” I Samuel 26:22-24 New King James Version (NKJV). God never fails to forgive and restore those who turn to him in true repentance. We were taught to "run through the tape" at the finish line. We were told "do not slow down" as we approached the finish line, but to keep running because the race was not yet won. I remembered this as a life-lesson because I was certainly not a star athlete, to say the least. I think of this every single time I read this passage in the Bible. I believe that our Lord wants us to remember it this way: Let go of anything that hinders your progress, especially sin. Don’t slow down. Don’t pay attention to the other runners in the race. Don’t grow weary or be discouraged. Keep your eyes fixed on the Prize…..
