Nov 30_2012 Acts 5

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully read, Acts 5. Ananias and Sapphira, sold some land and it belonged to them. They wanted to look good so they contrived to give less than they sold it for implying, that they were giving all to God. They were lying to God and therefore they died. Many conversions and healing, showed the power which went hand in hand with the preaching of the gospel. The priests were, jealous and afraid, that every one was going to convert, so they had apostles imprisoned. Once again God intervened and they were set free by an angel. The apostles testify to Christ before the council. The advice of Gamaliel, was that if the works they were doing were not of God they would fail anyway. The council, afraid of God and the people let the apostles go. “38 So in the present case I tell you, keep away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or this undertaking is of man, it will fail; 39 but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You might even be found opposing God!” So they took his advice, 40 and when they had called in the apostles, they beat them and charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. 41 Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name. 42 And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and preaching that the Christ is Jesus.”Acts 5:38-42, English Standard Version (ESV). The decision to omit the truth caused Ananias and Sapphira to lie to God. The truth that the disciples preach brings freedom, life, and love to may people. “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed. Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness,” 2 Peter 3:10-11 ESV. It is best for us to share God’s love through Jesus. That is why we keep the first thing first, that is salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” The reason that Christianity survives is because, it is of God!

Believers unite in? - Acts 4

Believers unite in? – Acts 4

Nov 29_2012 II Acts 4

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully read, Acts 4. Because the priests, depended on the people for their living, they were afraid that many people would follow Peter and John, because of the miracle performed at the temple gate, the priests had them imprisoned. In spite of the persecution the apostles boldly testify to the love and power Christ. Peter and John loved the Lord and would not be silenced. Just as we do today the believers unite in prayer and praise. The holy charity of the Christians. “32 Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. 33 And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. 34 There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold 35 and laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need. 36 Thus Joseph, who was also called by the apostles Barnabas (which means son of encouragement), a Levite, a native of Cyprus, 37 sold a field that belonged to him and brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet.” Acts 4:32-37, English Standard Version (ESV). Does this mean we should run out and sell all of our possessions and give them to the church?. Certainly not, as good stewards we must continue to provide for our family as well as support God’s family. If you sold your home or your car or any possessions to try and appease God it would be like trying to buy salvation. However if out of your abundance you sold property to help house and feed the needy in our church, because of love, God will certainly bless you. To make decisions that would adversely affect your home and family would not glorify God. Make every effort to continue sharing God’s love and gifts at every opportunity. “[His Steadfast Love Endures Forever] Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever.” Psalm 136:1,26 ESV. There is only one name under heaven by which people can be saved. That is why we keep the first thing first, that is salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Jesus is The Way, The Truth and The Life!
