Dec 2_2012 Acts 7

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully read, Acts 7. Stephen’s is accused of blasphemy in his defense, he speaks using God’s own word. Stephen reminds the Jews of their part in the death of Christ. Then as he sees the heavens open and Jesus seated at the right hand of God, Stephen, asks the Lord to forgive the very people who were stoning him. ”54 Now when they heard these things they were enraged, and they ground their teeth at him. 55 But he, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. 56 And he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” 57 But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears and rushed together at him. 58 Then they cast him out of the city and stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul. 59 And as they were stoning Stephen, he called out, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60 And falling to his knees he cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep.” Acts 7:54-60, English Standard Version (ESV). Look at Stephen being stoned and yet has the soundness of mind to ask God not to punish the people killing him. No one could do this without the peace of the Holy Spirit resting on them. He is a man dying yet sharing God’s love and his faith in Jesus! “[The Supremacy of God's Son] Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.” Hebrews 1:1-2 ESV. This is what we all want that peace that passes understanding means! That peace that can only come from the Holy Spirit. This is going to help us, keep the first thing first, that is salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.Being filled with the Holy Spirit, even in desperate or perfect circumstances, he will give us the words to share his love.

[The Word Became Flesh] In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:1-2, 14 ESV.
