Jan 18, 2013 2 Kings 2

Dear  Saints,

Today we continue in 2nd Kings by prayerfully reading, 2 Kings 2.  Another miracle from the prophet Elijah, he divides the Jordan river.  Elisha stays with Elijah until he is taken up into heaven.  Elisha sees Elijah depart in God’s chariot so he is manifested to be Elijah's successor.   Elisha heals the waters of Jericho, by placing salt in it as directed by God. Those that mocked Elisha were destroyed;  “23 He went up from there to Bethel, and while he was going up on the way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him, saying, “Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!” 24 And he turned around, and when he saw them, he cursed them in the name of the Lord. And two she-bears came out of the woods and tore forty-two of the boys. 25 From there he went on to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.” 2 Kings 2:23-25, English Standard Version (ESV).   God called Elisha to follow Elijah.  In spite of being urged to turn back Elisha kept on track holding fast to the path God called him to walk.  He was rewarded for his persistence.  Listen Christians God called us to follow his son, Jesus. Stay on track in the race and God has more rewards for us.  God called us for a purpose, beyond going to church twice a week.  “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13 ESV.  God has a purpose for us; it is up to us to stay on track.  Live a Christ centered life and depend on Jesus for the strength and the Holy Spirit for direction to keep the first thing first. That is salvation through the blood of our Lord Jesus.  God gave us freedom to serve and love him.  If we are true to him our lives will be filled with purposeful direction.

Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.” Philippians 2:14-16 ESV.
