How do I know whom to listen to?
April 15, 2013 - 2 Chronicles 24
Dear Saints,
Today we prayerfully, continue to Feast in 2 Chronicles 24. Joash started out doing what was right in
the eyes of the Lord. Was zealous in repairing the temple.
Then what happened? King Joash falls into idolatry; He is slain by his
servants. “27 Accounts of his sons and of
the many oracles against him and of the rebuilding of the house of God are
written in the Story of the Book of the Kings. And Amaziah his son reigned in
his place.” 2 Chronicles 24:27 English
Standard Version (ESV). Now after the
death of Jehoiada the princes of Judah came and tickled the king’s ears. They
abandoned the house of the Lord, the God of their fathers, and served a false
god and the idols. It seems that Joash took bad advice from his peers. The wrath of God came upon Judah and
Jerusalem because they turned from God. “For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are
ministers of God, attending to this very thing. Pay to all what is owed to
them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect
to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.” Romans 13:6-7 ESV. Don’t
listen to those who would entice you to disobey the civil authorities. Don’t listen to anyone who would turn you away
from Jesus. This is how you can check
on your advisors; When someone gives you advice you should hold it up to
God’s Word. If it doesn’t line up with
the light of God it isn’t advice for us!
