To Expedite or Impede? – 1 Kings 20

Jan 14, 2013 1 Kings 20

Dear  Saints,

Today we prayerfully read, 1 Kings 20.  Benhadad greedily besieges Samaria and sets his army against Ahab.  Ahab believes God and attacks and defeats Benhadad.  The Syrians are ignorant of the one true God and are again defeated.  Ahab makes peace with Benhadad, not heeding God’s instruction to smite him. “41 Then he hurried to take the bandage away from his eyes, and the king of Israel recognized him as one of the prophets. 42 And he said to him, “Thus says the Lord, ‘Because you have let go out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore your life shall be for his life, and your people for his people.’” 43 And the king of Israel went to his house vexed and sullen and came to Samaria.” 1 Kings 20:41-43. English Standard Version (ESV).   Do we serve our fellow men or God?  If you neglect to tell someone about the gifts of God, you are helping to condemn them to hell.  Sometimes you may be directed by God to ignore someone’s salvation. Never neglect to tell them about Jesus because you don’t want to offend a person, in doing so you are offending our God.    “If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.” 1 John 4:20-21 ESV.  It is far better to offend your brother or sister than to condone sin.  If we overlook sin, we are paving the path to hell.  Jesus told us that he is the way the truth and the life.  No one can reach God except thru Jesus. This is why we need to keep the first thing first. That is salvation through the blood of our Lord Jesus.  It is far better to offend a person than to expedite a soul away from God, to eternal punishment.  Ask yourself what better serves God expediting or impeding godlessness?  Don’t send mixed messages where salvation is concerned.

that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.” 2 Corinthians 5:19-20 ESV.
