Covering sin? – 2 Kings 10
Jan 26, 2013 - 2
Kings 10
Dear Saints,
Today we are prayerfully reading, 2 Kings 10. For their sins Ahab's sons and Ahaziah's
brethren are put to death. Because they
were sinning and worshipping false gods, Jehu destroys the worshippers of
Baal. Jehu follows Jeroboam's sins so the Lord
begins to cut Israel apart; “32 In those days the Lord began to cut
off parts of Israel. Hazael defeated them throughout the territory of
Israel: 33 from the Jordan eastward, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites,
and the Reubenites, and the Manassites, from Aroer, which is by the Valley
of the Arnon, that is, Gilead and Bashan. 34 Now the rest of the acts of
Jehu and all that he did, and all his might, are they not written in the
Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? 35 So Jehu slept with his
fathers, and they buried him in Samaria. And Jehoahaz his son reigned in
his place. 36 The time that Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was
twenty-eight years.“
2nd Kings 10:32-36
English - Standard Version (ESV). Jehu
seemed to be a zealous follower of God as he rooted out the idolaters. Then he doesn’t follow through, living a
righteous life, he falls into the sin of his father. Remember this; There are no small sins, no
white lies, sin is like cancer in that it grows and spreads until it consumes
an individual and finally a nation. “Humble yourselves
before the Lord, and he will exalt you.” James 4:10 ESV. We begin a good work in the Lord;
we need to finish the race, in good grace.
Jesus did not cleanse us of sin in order for us to fall back into
it. When you sin turn to Jesus right
away and ask for forgiveness. There
are no small sins just as there is no small cancer. If your doctor finds cancer in your
system, he doesn’t ignore it, saying; “It’s a small cancer, don’t even
worry about it. Sin is like rust,
when you find it you don’t merely paint over it. If you cover it rather than removing it
first it spreads under the paint.
Confess your sin to Jesus and ask him to remove it from you. Keep the first thing first. This is
salvation through the blood of our Lord Jesus. The only way to triumph over sin is to
ask Jesus to forgive you and cut it out of your life. It’s up to you to turn from the sin once
Jesus sets you free.

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is
honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever
is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of
praise, think about these things.” Philippians
4:8 ESV.
