Feb 8, 2013 - 2 Kings 23

Dear  Saints,

Today we are prayerfully reading, 2 Kings 23.  King Josiah turns to the Lord, when he hears the words of the Book of the Covenant.  There was no king like Josiah, who turned to the Lord with all his heart and soul. There was no Kings before or after him that turned to God like Josiah.   The Lord was still angry with Judah, because of Manasseh’s sin.  Our merciful God took Josiah, before he kindled his wrath against Judah and Jerusalem; “19 because your heart was penitent, and you humbled yourself before the Lord, when you heard how I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and you have torn your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you, declares the Lord. 20 Therefore, behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, and your eyes shall not see all the disaster that I will bring upon this place.’” And they brought back word to the king.“  2nd Kings 24:19-20 English Standard Version (ESV).  Because Josiah’s heart was with God he never saw or endured the dissolution of the Holy Land.  Because we can’t imagine the mind of God or the manner of life with him we almost never see death as a blessing. Sometimes we may wish death of our enemies while they are still in sin.   “[ Love Your Enemies ] “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” Matthew 5:43-45 ESV.  It is easy to recognize that our earthly ways are not God like.  We can see here in Matthew that God is not willing that any should depart this life in sin.  Therefore we need to keep the first thing first!  That is salvation through the blood of the Lamb.  Our goal is to serve God with a willing heart.
