Ziba’s flattery to king David is really a falsehood. David accepts the curses by Shimei, thinking possibly the curses are from God. Ahithophel’s counsels Absalom to do wicked things. “20 Then Absalom said to Ahithophel, “Give your counsel. What shall we do?” 21 Ahithophel said to Absalom, “Go in to your father’s concubines, whom he has left to keep the house, and all Israel will hear that you have made yourself a stench to your father, and the hands of all who are with you will be strengthened.” 22 So they pitched a tent for Absalom on the roof. And Absalom went in to his father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel. 23 Now in those days the counsel that Ahithophel gave was as if one consulted the word of God; so was all the counsel of Ahithophel esteemed, both by David and by Absalom.” 2 Samuel 16:20-23, English Standard Version (ESV). Dear Saints, what can we say her, except to seek counsel from God. Keep your eyes on Jesus and his Word, testing men’s words always holding them up to God’s Word. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. Devotional Thoughts: How do you start your day? Some people are slow starters and others hit the floor running. I urge you to start the day praising God for another day and asking Him to use you today to spread joy to others you encounter. This is the true servant’s heart. Daniel of the Old Testament was a man of prayer. He was a fanatic according to the world around him. Three times a day he knelt and prayed. The result was that regardless if it was hungry lions in lion’s den or evil men trying to end his life, he was victorious. Is your prayer life only active when it is convenient? What changes could you and I experience if we became as faithful as Daniel? David was a believer in giving thanks. Listen to his four principles that he urged God’s people to practice. 1.Enter His gates with thanksgiving. 2.Enter His courts with praise. 3.Be thankful to Him. 4.Bless His name. In one week we will celebrate a day set aside as Thanksgiving. Let us start today be prepared to make this day of Thanksgiving about more than turkey and dressing. Prayer Thought: Dear Jesus: Remind us of our blessings so that we can give thanks from a cheerful heart. Amen.” Make sure you follow Jesus, not men. Absalom’s ambition seems to be judge over Israel at first. His ambition soon turns into a conspiracy to become king. King David leaves Jerusalem, rather that to fight his son. Out of reverence to God David sends back the ark. He prays against Ahithophel’s counsel. “32 While David was coming to the summit, where God was worshiped, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat torn and dirt on his head. 33 David said to him, “If you go on with me, you will be a burden to me. 34 But if you return to the city and say to Absalom, ‘I will be your servant, O king; as I have been your father’s servant in time past, so now I will be your servant,’ then you will defeat for me the counsel of Ahithophel. 35 Are not Zadok and Abiathar the priests with you there? So whatever you hear from the king’s house, tell it to Zadok and Abiathar the priests. 36 Behold, their two sons are with them there, Ahimaaz, Zadok’s son, and Jonathan, Abiathar’s son, and by them you shall send to me everything you hear.” 37 So Hushai, David’s friend, came into the city, just as Absalom was entering Jerusalem.” 2 Samuel 15:32-37, English Standard Version (ESV). David was lax in the case of son Absalom. Like David, if we fail to do to discipline our children we are sinning against God. I have submitted an example below: WHAT I AM THANKFUL FOR 1. Redemption!!! Christ has paid the price for our sins which separated us from God. 2. Christian parents who taught me about the Bible and how to pray. 3. Living in a land where there is freedom to worship the Lord openly. 4. The immeasurable benefits of Grace. 5. To be alive. A year ago I was told by my doctor that my time was short and to get things in order. 6. A wonderful wife that has filled my life with joy and companionship. 7. Wonderful children that love me. 8. I am so excited to live on a ranch in Texas. I am a country boy!!! 9. I have been blessed to pastor and preach for 50 years plus and see lives changed for Christ. 10. I am excited about what is in front of me and I know that what is ahead is greater than what is behind. 11. I am headed for a reunion with loved ones and friends and my precious Jesus. 12.
