Nov 27_2012 II Acts 2

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully read, Acts 2. The apostles were together, praying knowing that what Jesus promised wouk=ld be delivered. Then we see the descent of the Holy Spirit at the day of Pentecost. The Holy Spirit rested on the apostles like tongues of fire. There was no babel talk, they are speaking in divers languages. Peter’s address to the Jews saying; Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy”, he iterated this prophesy is for you and I. The Christian movement started out on fire there. Because of their witness that day, three thousand souls converted. Yes we should be involved in our church, if someone says your acting pious, thank them and point out the piety and affection of the disciples. “46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.” Acts 1:24-26, English Standard Version (ESV). When you were saved you were sealed by the Holy Spirit. God poured out the Holy Spirit on you to teach and guide you what to say. Don’t drop out into the world, drop in to God’s Church.

How to Fish Series- What’s in your Ice chest? (Devotional 2)

(Sermon outline excerpt of “Gone Fishing!” byJoe Alain)
SCRIPTURE: Mark 1:17-18
Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”
18 They immediately left their nets and followed Him.
What’s in Your Ice Chest?
Could it be that maybe one reason some folks aren’t too quick to see too many people coming into the church is the same reason some of us don’t care if we catch too many fish at the lake? Fish are messy! If I catch a mess I have a mess to clean when I get home. It’s much easier to just “wet my line” and sit a spell under the cypress tree, eat my sandwich and Twinkie, and sip on my Barges Root Beer. It doesn’t take much effort to fish and not catch anything. But it does take some effort to fish like you really want to fill your ice chest.
The question for us is what kind of “fishers of men” are we? Are we content to practice casting our weighted line in the backyard? Or are we truly after some fish and will do whatever it takes to catch some? Of course it’s easier to just “wet a line” and say we’re fishing, and so the church today has mastered the art of fishing without ever really catching much. Instead of fishing for men and women we often busy ourselves by attending fishing seminars, telling fish stories, or fixing up the fishing camp (the church house), contented with the thought that because our tree appears green we must be fruitful, even though the evidence suggests otherwise. It has been a publicized statistic in my denomination that 70% of our churches are plateaued or declining. This begs the question, “Are we truly fishing or just wetting a line?” In many instances, our fishing today consists mainly of fishing for children of church members in the safe church pond or transferring fish from one church ice chest to another one down the street. Few churches are impacting the pagan pool and reaching their God — given potential!”(Joe Alain)
COMMENTS BY PASTOR GLEN:
The time is short and now is the time to broaden our outreach and each follower of Jesus share with others outside of the church what you have experienced since you became a believer and active follower of Christ. God bless you as you accept this challenge and do it this week. Get ready to fish!! Ask God to direct you to some soul today. Charles Spurgeon a great evangelist promised God that he would not sleep until he had spoken to some soul about Jesus. He was faithful to his word and presented these souls to Jesus. Is it any wonder that His preaching was anointed and touched multitudes of people?
PRAYER SUGGESTION: Dear Jesus help us to prepare to catch “fish” for you as fishers of men. Amen.”

God’s gift of salvation and fillinng of the Holy Spirit, comes with a purpose. Yes being clean and in the house of God feels good. There is more, you can soar when you serve our Lord, in prayer, action and fellowship. Sharing this gift enhances your life Saint! “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” Colossians 3:16 ESV. We will continue to, keep the first thing first, that is salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Keep on sharing the gift of God (salvation through Jesus) at every opportunity, with every person you meet. Remember you don’t have to like ninnies to pray for them.

Nov 26_2012 Acts 1

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully read, Acts 1. Proofs of Christ’s resurrection, backed by witness of His missions and resurrection. Prior to his ascension Jesus explains that he must leave for the Holy Spirit to descend. After appearing to the apostles for 40 days, Christ ascended. The apostles unite in prayer to choose a replacement for Judas. “24 And they prayed and said, “You, Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which one of these two you have chosen 25 to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.” 26 And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.” Acts 1:24-26, English Standard Version (ESV). They casts lots in hope that God’s will not theirs will choose Judas replacement. We need not help God, just pray that his will be done.
Acts An Overview;
This book unites the Gospels to the Epistles. It contains many particulars concerning the apostles Peter and Paul, and of the Christian church from the ascension of our Saviour to the arrival of St. Paul at Rome, a space of about thirty years. St. Luke was the writer of this book; he was present at many of the events he relates, and attended Paul to Rome. But the narrative does not afford a complete history of the church during the time to which it refers, nor even of St. Paul’s life. The object of the book has been considered to be, 1. To relate in what manner the gifts of the Holy Spirit were communicated on the day of Pentecost, and the miracles performed by the apostles, to confirm the truth of Christianity, as showing that Christ’s declarations were really fulfilled. 2. To prove the claim of the Gentiles to be admitted into the church of Christ. This is shown by much of the contents of the book. A large portion of the Acts is occupied by the discourses or sermons of various persons, the language and manner of which differ, and all of which will be found according to the persons by whom they were delivered, and the occasions on which they were spoken. It seems that most of these discourses are only the substance of what was actually delivered. They relate nevertheless fully to Jesus as the Christ, the anointed Messiah.” – Matthew Henry Concise Commentary
Jesus paid the price for our sin and overcame death. Then he ascended so that the Holy Spirit could descend on all who accept the gift of salvation. “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.” Hebrews 12:28 NKJV. With all this in mind, keep the first thingfirst, that is salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Share the gift of God (salvation through Jesus) at every opportunity. Keep your eyes on Jesus remembering that God isn’t willing for any person to buy the farm without knowing Jesus as their savior.
