Road blocks or bridges? – Acts 11

Road blocks or bridges? – Acts 11

Dec 6_2012 Acts 11

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully read, Acts 11. Peter had to defend himself from those that would put tradition or works in front of God’s Grace. The reason for the success of the gospel at Antioch was it was Gods will, His grace. There in Antioch is where the disciples were first called Christians. Acting as true believers they sent relief to Judea. “27 Now in these days prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch. 28 And one of them named Agabus stood up and foretold by the Spirit that there would be a great famine over all the world (this took place in the days of Claudius). 29 So the disciples determined, every one according to his ability, to send relief to the brothers living in Judea. 30 And they did so, sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.” Acts 11:27-30, English Standard Version (ESV). In the beginning of this chapter, the first Christians wanted to live by religious tradition rather than share God’s grace. Once the believers got past their religion and tradition, God’s grace spread like fire. Jesus was accepted as the Messiah by Jew’s and gentiles alike. “I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.” John 10:14-15 ESV. We the sinners in this world is who Jesus laid down his life for. Road blocks are for catching law breakers! Jesus is for saving all sinners from their transgressions! Keep the first thing first, that is salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus laid down his life for all people, those who will accept God’s grace are sealed with the Holy Spirit. Jesus cleans his fish after he catches them!

So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:7, 9-10 ESV.

It is worse now! – Acts 10

It is worse now! – Acts 10

Dec 5_2012 Acts 10

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully read, Acts 10. Up to now the Jews where the only ones baptized in the name of Christ, Cornelius directed to send for Peter. God sends peter a vision and in Peter’s vision, God told him not to call unclean what God makes clean. He goes to Cornelius, a centurion, an upright and God-fearing man. Cornelius tells Peter how an angel directed him to Peter. The gifts of the Holy Spirit poured out; “44 While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word. 45 And the believers from among the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out even on the Gentiles. 46 For they were hearing them speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter declared, 47 “Can anyone withhold water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to remain for some days.” Acts 10:44-48, English Standard Version (ESV). Saints these gifts are still for believers today, the key is belief in Jesus. There a no less reasons for you and INOT to harvest faithfully for the kingdom of God. “So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:7, 9-10 ESV. Yes we are the sheep and Jesus is the only way in to the kingdom. We are saved by Jesus as God Word says. We to are sealed with the Holy Spirit. We do to keepthe first thing first, that is salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. Some of us are not happy with the state of this world, Jesus told us it would be worse before he returns. I for one think we need to win all the souls we can before Jesus returns for us.

How To Fish – Devotional series by Pastor, Glen Aycock;

DON’T GROW WEARY

(By Glen Aycock)

SCRIPTURE: I CORINTHIANS 15:58

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

DEVOTIONAL( number 5 in fishing series by Glen Aycock)

One of the principles of being good fishermen, is consistency. Last year I carried a fishing license in my wallet. I was legal and I had the equipment but I only caught two fish. (one was a throw away). I think I know the reason for the small number of fish. It would have been a different story in all likelihood if I had gone fishing more than once. This year I have a new license and a new opportunity to go often. I expect to catch more fish. The same analogy could be applied to being fishers of men. More souls can be saved if we consistently share Jesus with the lost. It is imperative that we not give up but that by every possible deed of service we throw the salvation line out into the masses of people who need the Lord. Don’t quit or get discouraged, do your part and Christ will do his part. Bring the wandering ones to Jesus. I leave you with this example:
After struggling to develop a viable electric light bulb for months and months, Thomas Edison was interviewed by a young reporter who boldly asked Mr. Edison if he felt like failure and if he thought he should give up now? Perplexed Edison replied, “Young man, why would I feel like a failure and why would I give up? I now know definitely over 9000 ways that an electric light bulb will not work and success is almost in my grasp. In the next month he was successful.”
PRAYER THOUGHT: Dear Jesus, help us to consistently labor for souls. Amen.
