In Whom We Trust? August 21, 2013 – Psalms 11-12 Today’s Feast Psalms 11-12 Chapter 11 – “David’s struggle with, and triumph over a strong temptation to distrust God, and betake himself to indirect means for his own safety, in a time of danger”   Chapter 12 – “ The psalmist begs help of God, because there were none among men whom he durst trust.”  - Matthew Henry Concise   Return to Admenu Home Admenu’s Alternate Site Dear Saints, Today we prayerfully continue our Feast reading Psalms 11-12.  There are times that we like David are tempted to take things into our own hands. That is what we see David doing here in chapter 11.  In chapter 12 we see him come to the conclusion that only God can be trusted always. “ 7 You, O Lord, will keep them;     you will guard us from this generation forever. 8 On every side the wicked prowl,     as vileness is exalted among the children of man. - Psalms 12:7-8English Standard Version (ESV).   David learned to trust in the Lord by (see 1 Samuel 17:34-37) experience.  As we follow Jesus our experience will tell us to trust the Holy Spirit (see John 14:26) to bring God’s Word to our remembrance.  “He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?” Romans 8:32ESV. Our friend Jesus is calling out to us! (see John 15:13-15), listen can you hear him?  He won’t call forever, now is the time to answer his call. Faraway From God? August 21, 2013 – Psalms 10 Today’s Feast Psalms 10 – “The psalmist complains of the wickedness of the wicked. (1-11) He prays to God to appear for the relief of his people. (12-18)”  - Matthew Henry Concise  Matthew Henry Concise Return to Admenu Home Admenu’s Alternate Site Dear Saints, Today we prayerfully continue our Feast reading Psalms 10. Sometimes when we look around at the world it seems that the ungodly are running things. They may be passing statutes that are ungodly in nature.  Promoting wars that the peasant pays for in blood, while the wicked gain money and power.   That is probably how David is feeling in this Psalm.  He feels that God is far off and he asking him to show himself and cure the afflicted.  “17 O Lord, you hear the desire of the afflicted;     you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear 18 to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed,     so that man who is of the earth may strike terror no more.” -Psalms 10:19-20 English Standard Version (ESV).   If you are feeling let down and that the world is collapsing, you understand where David is coming from.  Don’t let the despair move you away from Jesus. When you are down it’s time to draw near to Jesus.  He will never let you down (see Hebrews 13:5) or forsake you.   Prayer and reading (see ) God’s Word is how we draw near to God. “By day the Lord commands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.”  Psalm 42:8 ESV.
