Today’s Feast

May 7, 2014 – Jeremiah 1
The Call of Jeremiah

Gods Not Dead! Please join us sharing God’s Word daily.  We will spend about fifteen minutes a day praying and reading every word in God’s Word in approximately three years.

14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14

Jeremiah Overview; “Jeremiah was a priest, a native of Anathoth, in the tribe of Benjamin. He was called to the prophetic office when very young, about seventy years after the death of Isaiah, and exercised it for about forty years with great faithfulness, till the sins of the Jewish nation came to their full measure and destruction followed. The prophecies of Jeremiah do not stand as they were delivered... The general subject of his prophecies is the idolatry and other sins of the Jews; the judgments by which they were threatened, with references to their future restoration and deliverance, and promises of the Messiah. They are remarkable for plain and faithful reproofs, affectionate expostulations, and awful warnings.” -  Matthew Henry Concise
Jeremiah Chapter 1, “Jeremiah's call to the prophetic office. (1-10) A vision of an almond-tree and of a seething-pot, Divine protection is promised. (11-19)”  -  Matthew Henry Concise

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully continue our Feast reading the book of Jeremiah Chapter 1.  God calls Jeremiah to be a prophet (see Jeremiah 1:1-10) to the Jews as wells as the neighboring nations. God shows Jeremiah the destruction of Judah and Jerusalem for they sinned by (see Jeremiah 1:11-19) denying God’s glory.  God avows His judgment, for they forsook the Lord.18 And I, behold, I make you this day a fortified city, an iron pillar, and bronze walls, against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests, and the people of the land. 19 They will fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you, for I am with you, declares the Lord, to deliver you.”“   Jeremiah 1:18-19  English Standard Versions (ESV).    God has plans for everyone who repents and (see 1 John 1:9) asks forgiveness in the name of Jesus.  “16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.   1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 ESV. No matter how God uses you or what Jesus provides (see Philippians 4:11-13); stay faithful because the Lord strengthens you.

Paul's Plea for Onesimus

Today’s Feast

May 6, 2014 – Philemon 1
Paul's Plea for Onesimus
Gods Not Dead! Please join us sharing God’s Word daily.  We will spend about fifteen minutes a day praying and reading every word in God’s Word in approximately three years.

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.” 1 Chronicles 16:34

Philemon Overview; “Philemon was an inhabitant of Colosse, a person of some note and wealth, and a convert under the ministry of St. Paul. Onesimus was the slave of Philemon: having run away from his master, he went to Rome, where he was converted to the Christian faith, by the word as set forth by Paul, who kept him till his conduct proved the truth and sincerity of his conversion. He wished to repair the injury he had done to his master, but fearing the punishment his offence deserved might be inflicted, he entreated the apostle to write to Philemon. And St. Paul seems no where to reason more beautifully, or to entreat more forcibly, than in this epistle.” -  Matthew Henry Concise
Philemon Chapter 1, “The apostle's joy and praise for Philemon's steady faith in the Lord Jesus, and love to all the saints. (1-7) He recommends Onesimus as one who would make rich amends for the misconduct of which he had been guilty; and on behalf of whom the apostle promises to make up any loss Philemon had sustained. (8-22) Salutations and a blessing. (23-25)”  -  Matthew Henry Concise

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully continue our Feast reading the book of Philemon Chapter 1.  Paul greets Philemon and appeals to the love (see Philemon 1:1-7) he shares as a brother in Christ. He pleads (rather than demands) for Philemon to accept his runaway slave Onesimus back as a brother (see Philemon 1:8-14) and fellow believer in Jesus.  He doesn’t try to make light of the sins committed by Onesimus, he points out that as a brother (see Philemon 1:15-22) in Jesus he will be a more useful servant. Paul ends this letter with  these final words; “23 Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends greetings to you, 24 and so do  Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my fellow workers.
25 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.“   Philemon 1:23-25  English Standard Versions (ESV).    This letter makes me think about all the wrongs people commit and (see Luke 7:47-50) the power of forgiveness in the name of Jesus.  “16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.  James 5:16 ESV. We should pray that our sins will be forgiven (see Luke 6:37) and at the same time forgive all sins that have been done against us.

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully continue our Feast reading the book of Titus Chapter 2. & Chapter 3   Paul Encourages Titus to stick with (see Titus 2:1-8) sound doctrine and to remain obedient and faithful (see Titus 1:9-10) to those they (see Luke 16:12) serve. Paul declares that grace and salvation is God’s gift (See Titus 1:11-15) to all men who love Jesus and are called according to his purpose; “13 Waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works. 15 Declare these things; exhort and rebuke with all authority.  Let no one disregard you.“   Titus 2:13-15  English Standard Versions (ESV).    He reminded them to be obedient doing every good work (see Titus 3:1-7) in the name of Jesus.  To avoid foolish controversy, quarrels and disagreements, (see Titus 3:8-11) moving on after they continue to reject the Word. Paul finishes the letter with expressions of the love, favor and grace of God; “14 And let our people learn to devote themselves to good works, so as to help cases of urgent need, and not be unfruitful. 15 All who are with me send greetings to you. Greet those who love us in the faith. Grace be with you all.” Never worry about what to say or do in God’s service, study God’s Word (see John 14:26) the Holy Spirit will bring Jesus’ words to you as needed.   6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:6-7 ESV. Pray that God’s will be done in your life (see Matthew 6:9-13) & ( Matthew 6:5) that you do everything is in God’s will.
