Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully Feast in Nehemiah 6; when the wall was completed Sanballat’s and the rest of their enemies plot to hinder Nehemiah. Tobiah and Sanballat had hired false prophets to frighten Nehemiah. Many in Judah were bound by oath to Tobiah and that caused treachery of some among the Jews. (Nehemiah 6:15-19). “19 Also they spoke of his good deeds in my presence and reported my words to him. And Tobiah sent letters to make me afraid.” Nehemiah 6: 19, English Standard Version (ESV).  When we look at the deceit and treachery we have to ask ourselves; who was behind it?  Jesus tells us who the enemy really is and how we are to defend against the enemy in the Word.  “[Hearing and Doing the Word] 19 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;James 1:19, ESV.  God never wanted us to be in the dark.  What is it we are supposed to be quick to hear?  That’s easy if you want to know read God’s Word (see Romans 10:17).   So who is the enemy and how do we defend ourselves?  The enemy is the devil and God’s Word tells us how to defend ourselves in Ephesians 6.  Once again we see the value in this Feast we share in God’s Word. If the Lord is willing I will send and post the Feast again tomorrow.

Today’s Verse; “20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.Ephesians 3:20-21, ESV.

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully Feast in Nehemiah 5; The Jews were mortgaging their land and houses to get grain because of the famine. Nehemiah was angry about how the people were putting their own people under bondage for profit. Nehemiah sets the example by showing mercy and forgiving any debts owed to himself; “18 Now what was prepared at my expense for each day was one ox and six choice sheep and birds, and every ten days all kinds of wine in abundance. Yet for all this I did not demand the food allowance of the governor, because the service was too heavy on this people.19 Remember for my good, O my God, all that I have done for this people.”  Nehemiah 5:18-19, English Standard Version (ESV).  How are we supposed to treat those who are in debt to us? No matter what they owe us we must not charge interest. ““You shall not charge interest on loans to your brother, interest on money, interest on food, interest on anything that is lent for interest.” Deuteronomy 23:19 ESV.   There is no ambiguity there, and what did we read today in Nehemiah; “10 Moreover, I and my brothers and my servants are lending them money and grain. Let us abandon this exacting of interest.Nehemiah 5:10, ESV.  God never changes He is the same today, yesterday and forever.  If you have an opportunity to help another person dot charge them interest and God will reward you.  If you charge interest your reward and condemnation is in the interest you received. If the Lord is willing I will send and post the Feast again tomorrow.

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully Feast in Nehemiah 4; As the Israelites are building up of the walls of Jerusalem, they face the opposition of those who hate God. The designs of God’s enemies are to foil the good works and love of God’s people.  Nehemiah’s takes precautions to guard against the enemies of God and His people.    “21 So we labored at the work, and half of them held the spears from the break of dawn until the stars came out. 22 I also said to the people at that time, “Let every man and his servant pass the night within Jerusalem, that they may be a guard for us by night and may labor by day.” 23 So neither I nor my brothers nor my servants nor the men of the guard who followed me, none of us took off our clothes; each kept his weapon at his right hand.” Nehemiah 4:21-23, English Standard Version (ESV).  Worldly people are opposed to the love and message of Christ.  So Jesus cautions the Saints to be on guard against the evils in this world. “16 “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.Matthew 10:16, ESV.   Jesus cautions us, to shrewdly engage the world ("as shrewd as serpents") and in Jesus’ righteousness ("as innocent as doves").  This is how we are to proceed; shrewdly and in innocence as we carry the love of Jesus to a lost world. If the Lord is willing I will send and post the Feast again tomorrow.

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully Feast in Nehemiah 3; Every Israelite lent a hand toward the building up of the walls of Jerusalem. The work was equally divided, so that everyone knew what do, and they did it, with a will to do their best work without conflict, or strife. The wall was rebuilt for the public good in God’s name.  “1 Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brothers the priests, and they built the Sheep Gate. They consecrated it and set its doors. They consecrated it as far as the Tower of the Hundred, as far as the Tower of Hananel.… 32 And between the upper chamber of the corner and the Sheep Gate the goldsmiths and the merchants repaired.”  Nehemiah 3:1…32, English Standard Version (ESV).  When we do any ministry or function in the Church, at home or at work we are called upon to do our best.   As a member of the community and in the body of Christ each of us must strive to function always doing our best for Jesus; “2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.Romans 5:2-5, ESV.  No matter what we are doing we are working for Jesus and not to please men. If the Lord is willing I will send and post the Feast again tomorrow.

Why We Read The Feast?

Why We Read The Feast?

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully Feast in Nehemiah 1 & 2 .  In the Feast today we begin in the book of Nehemiah chapters one and two.  By reading a chapter (sometimes two) everyday, we read every Word in God’s Word in about 3 years.  Jesus supports this work so we never ask for nor accept donations. We do accept prayers and prayerful correction. Thank you for joining us in the Feast.

“The Old Testament history closes with the book of Nehemiah, wherein is recorded the workings of his heart, in the management of public affairs; with many devout reflections.

– Nehemiah was the Persian king’s cup-bearer. When God has work to do, he will never want instruments to do it with. Nehemiah lived at ease, and in honour, but does not forget that he is an Israelite, and that his brethren are in distress. He was ready to do them all the good offices he could; and that he might know how best to do them a kindness, he makes inquiries about them. We should inquire especially concerning the state of the church and religion. Every Jerusalem on this side the heavenly one will have some defect, which will require the help and services of its friends. Nehemiah’s first application was to God, that he might have the fuller confidence in his application to the king. Our best pleas in prayer are taken from the promise of God, the word on which he has caused us to hope. Other means must be used, but the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails most. Communion with God will best prepare us for our dealings with men. When we have intrusted our concerns to God, the mind is set at liberty; it feels satisfaction and composure, and difficulties vanish. We know that if the affair be hurtful, he can easily hinder it; and if it be good for us, he can as easily forward it.”  An overview of Nehemiah in Matthew Henry’s Concise commentary.

Why do we read every word in God’s Word?  God’s Word is life.   “ But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”Matthew 4:4, ESV. God’s Word feeds our faith.  “17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.Romans 10:17, ESV.  Feast to be A Worker Approved by God;14 Remind them of these things, and charge them before God not to quarrel about words, which does no good, but only ruins the hearers.15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workerwho has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.16 But avoid irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness,2 Timothy 2:14-16, ESV.  These are but a few reasons for our Feast.

If the Lord is willing I will send and post the Feast again tomorrow.

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully Feast in Ezra 10 .  In the Feast today we see the suffering of the people who disobey God.  What seemed good at the time that their trespasses took place now brings the people to their knees!   “1 While Ezra prayed and made confession, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, a very great assembly of men, women, and children, gathered to him out of Israel, for the people wept bitterly. 2 And Shecaniah the son of Jehiel, of the sons of Elam, addressed Ezra: “We have broken faith with our God and have married foreign women from the peoples of the land, but even now there is hope for Israel in spite of this. 3 Therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all these wives and their children, according to the counsel of my lord and of those who tremble at the commandment of our God, and let it be done according to the Law. 4 Arise, for it is your task, and we are with you; be strong and do it.” 5 Then Ezra arose and made the leading priests and Levites and all Israel take an oath that they would do as had been said. So they took the oath.”  Ezra 10:1-5, English Standard Version (ESV).  In hind sight it is easy to see the pain that sin causes.  “May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.Romans 15:5-6, ESV. If we want to live according to the will of God, we need to hold any and all decisions up to God’s Word. When we make well informed decisions (according to God’s Word) we bring glory and honor to our Lord Jesus.  When we bring glory and honor to Jesus, we live in harmony enjoying the fruit of Christian living. If the Lord is willing I will send and post the Feast again tomorrow.

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully Feast in Ezra 9.  God’s people suffer for not obeying God.  They took wives and husbands from people who worshipped false gods and idols.  “13 And after all that has come upon us for our evil deeds and for our great guilt, seeing that you, our God, have punished us less than our iniquities deserved and have given us such a remnant as this, 14 shall we break your commandments again and intermarry with the peoples who practice these abominations? Would you not be angry with us until you consumed us, so that there should be no remnant, nor any to escape? 15 O Lord, the God of Israel, you are just, for we are left a remnant that has escaped, as it is today. Behold, we are before you in our guilt, for none can stand before you because of this.””  Ezra 9:13-15, English Standard Version (ESV).  God had instructed the people not to mingle with idolaters. Here we see the state of sinners who have turned their back on God and have now allowed the sins of their spouses to come between them and their God.  This remnant is standing before God confessing their sins. They are standing before God with no defense for their actions.  Saints we stand before God with no defense for our sinful life.  Because we are truly repentant and accepting Jesus’ sacrifice for our sin we are justified by Jesus.   We should never fall back into sin by marrying outside of our faith. “14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?2 Corinthians 6:14, ESV.  That is the point of today’s Feast.  Light cannot dwell with darkness.  The darkness will flee from before the light.  The only way to make a lighted room dark is to remove the light.  The only way a saint can live in harmony with a sinner is to turn their back on Jesus!  If the Lord is willing I will send and post the Feast again tomorrow.
