We Discern Or Become Worldly?

Today’s Feast

Jan. 27, 2014 – Proverbs 29
We Discern Or Become Worldly?
“4 You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.” James 4:4

Proverbs 29, Verse 1. “If God wounds, who can heal? The word of God warns all to flee from the wrath to come, to the hope set before us in Jesus Christ.”  Verse 27. “The just man abhors the sins of the wicked, and shuns their company. Christ exposed the wickedness of men, yet prayed for the wicked when they were crucifying him. Hatred to sin in ourselves and others, is a needful branch of the Christian temper. But all that are unholy, have rooted hatred to godliness.” -  Matthew Henry Concise

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully continue our Feast reading proverbs Chapter 29.

In today’s Feast We see the comparison of those who love God’s wisdom to those who embrace foolishness.   “27 An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous, but one whose way is straight is an abomination to the wicked.Proverbs 29:27 (English Standard Version) ESV.   A wise person uses discernment choosing to befriend believers while offering God’s love to the worldly (see 2 Corinthians 6:14). Offer the love of God through Jesus to the unsaved.  If they reject your witness leave them alone (see Matthew 10:14).  We should continue to love our neighbor, recognizing and separating ourselves from their evil practices.  “17 Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds. 18 They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart. 19 They have become callous and have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity. 20 But that is not the way you learned Christ! Ephesians 4:17-20 ESV.  Who are we to recognize who we fellowship with and whom we leave alone?   We are God’s children friends of Jesus (see James 4:4).   We believe God, and it is counted to us as righteousness.

37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 22:37-40 ESV.

The Gospel Leads To Jesus, The Love For Others Will Lead To Life

Today’s Feast

The Gospel Leads To Jesus, The Love For Others Will Lead To Life

“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1

Proverbs 28, Verse 1. “Sin makes men cowards. Whatever difficulties the righteous meet in the way of duty, they are not daunted.” Verse 28. ”When power is put into the hands of the wicked, wise men decline public business. If the reader will go diligently over this and the other chapters, in many places where at first he may suppose there is least of Christ, still he will find what will lead to him.” -  Matthew Henry Concise

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully continue our Feast reading proverbs Chapter 28.

In today’s Feast the stingy and foolish are compared to the faithful wise.   “25 A greedy man stirs up strife, but the one who trusts in the Lord will be enriched.  26 Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.Proverbs 28:25-26 (English Standard Version) ESV.   A wise and humble believer will be exalted by Jesus (see James 4:10). While a greedy person will lose all that they possess (see Proverbs 28:22).  Jesus said that the wise and faithful believer who loves their neighbor and Jesus is fulfilling God’s commandments.  “37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 22:37-40 ESV.  We must love the sinner not judge them.  Faith in Jesus is useless without love (see 1 Corinthians 13:1-4).  It’s more important to tell a sinner what faith in Jesus does for them, than to tell them what the wages of their sin will get them.

What Are We In Need Of?

Today’s Feast

Jan. 25, 2014 – Proverbs 27
What Are We In Need Of?

For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.” Romans 1:17

Proverbs 27, Verse 1. “We know not what a day may bring forth. This does not forbid preparing for to-morrow, but presuming upon to-morrow. We must not put off the great work of conversion, that one thing needful.” Verse 23-27. We ought to have some business to do in this world, and not to live in idleness, and not to meddle with what we do not understand. We must be diligent and take pains. Let us do what we can, still the world cannot be secured to us, therefore we must choose a more lasting portion; but by the blessing of God upon our honest labours, we may expect to enjoy as much of earthly blessings as is good for us.” -  Matthew Henry Concise

Dear Saints,

Today we prayerfully continue our Feast reading proverbs Chapter 27.

In today’s Feast we are learning to depend on God for our daily needs.  Salvation and faith is our number one priority, knowing that God will provide for our daily needs.   “25 When the grass is gone and the new growth appears and the vegetation of the mountains is gathered, 26 the lambs will provide your clothing, and the goats the price of a field.  27 There will be enough goats milk for your food, for the food of your household and maintenance for your girls.Proverbs 27:27-28 (English Standard Version) ESV.  Saints, have no need to fret or worry about their daily needs (see Matthew 6:25-34) because we know that Jesus will provide for us.  By the same token there is no need for us to worry about the future (see Matthew 6:34).  Our future is bright in the light of our Lord Jesus.  “8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Galatians 6:1 ESV.  You and I will stand secure living in our faith because our righteousness is in Jesus (see Romans 1:17).  And through Jesus we attain our freedom from sin.
